Summary

Monochrome Sites does not collect, transmit, sell or share any data. It makes no network requests of any kind.

What the extension stores

The only data the extension keeps is the configuration you enter yourself:

• the list of websites you chose to render in grayscale;
• the list of websites you chose to exclude;
• whether the “all sites” and “flat backgrounds” options are on.

This is stored using the browser’s chrome.storage.sync API. If you are signed into your browser with sync enabled, your browser vendor replicates it across your own devices under your own account — exactly as it does for your bookmarks. The author of this extension has no access to it.

Per-tab toggles are held in chrome.storage.session and are discarded when the browser closes.

What the extension does not do

• No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or usage statistics.
• No network requests. The extension has no server and no third-party services.
• No reading of page content. It injects static CSS files and never inspects the DOM, form fields, cookies or browsing history.
• No JavaScript is injected into web pages.
• No remote code execution.
• No advertising, tracking, or fingerprinting.
• Nothing is sold or transferred to anyone.

Permissions

• storage — saves your site lists and toggles locally.
• scripting — registers, inserts and removes the grayscale stylesheets.
• Access to all websites (*://*/*) — the extension’s only purpose is to restyle whichever sites you choose, so it cannot know those hosts in advance. This access is used exclusively to apply and remove static CSS files. It is never used to read page content or transmit anything anywhere.

Removing your data

Uninstalling the extension removes its stored settings. You can also clear them from the options page with “Remove all saved sites” and “Remove all excluded sites”, or export them to a file first from the Backup section.
